NEW! Test Your Boating Skills—United States Power Squadrons® Boating Skills Virtual Trainer

Boating is fun. So is learning to boat on the United States Power Squadrons®  new Boating Skills Virtual Trainer.

Take the helm of a virtual boat to practice basic boating maneuvers and improve your boating skills - without leaving dry land. The United States Power Squadrons® new Boating Skills Virtual Trainer makes learning fun! It features a steering wheel and a real Mercury throttle you use to “drive” a 20-console boat on a lake with other powerboats, sailboats, navigation aids and a marina.
Training options include close quarters maneuvering, docking and more. Instructors can adjust current and wind direction and velocity, and day/night settings to vary the degree of difficulty and challenge you whatever your skill level.

Try It Cove—FREE Demo Rides

Presented by West Marine

In search of a new way to enjoy the water, spend time outdoors or energize your exercise routine? Head to the Try It Cove pool inside at Pier 48 to “get out on the water” and experience the fun of stand up paddle boarding, kayaking and other paddle sports. We’ll provide all the gear and instruction you need to take a demo ride—no experience needed. Be sure to bring a swimsuit and a towel.

Free Sailing Lesson—Sailing Simulator

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to pilot a sailboat, here’s your chance to find out—without leaving dry land! Climb aboard the Sailing Simulator and discover how fun and easy it is to sail. Built for training, the sailing simulator is designed to offer a true-to-life sailing experience. Crew from the Afterguard Sailing School will teach you how to tack and jibe and use the tiller to keep the boat level as fans fill the sails and move the boat from side to side.

 Nautical Fun For Young Mariners!

Want the kids to try a water activity? Visit the Try It Cove pool for stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing and more! Be sure to bring a suit and towel; we'll provide the equipment and instruction.

The Sailing Simulator offers young skippers a chance to try sailing without leaving the show floor! 

Remember— admission is free for kids 15 and younger. 

Concessions - take a break

Grab a bite to eat from the gourmet food trucks "docked" next to Pier 48. Or enjoy a cold drink at the beer garden—it's just 3 minute walk between Pier 48 & McCovey Cove. The boat show shuttle will also stop at "The Yard—Misson Rock" as it's ferries guests between the docks and Pier 48.
